The morel sighting maps are a great way to help each other out a little. Morel hunters often refer to the maps as the morel progression maps, and they have always been a favorite. The Great Morel is often asked “Is it time yet?” or “Are there morel sightings in my neck of the woods?” The maps are a great resource on when one might begin their foraging adventure.
If you would like to submit a sighting, the guidelines are pretty simple fill in the form with a Zip Code, a City, and State, along with and date found. If you want to add any additional information such as county, weather or soil conditions, or an image that is fine (two-image limit). Sightings will be posted periodically throughout the day during the prime morel season.

2024 Morel Sightings Map
The 2024 Morel season is on! The first official Southeast report came in from Georgia in late February and the reports have been strong. The spring migration of the morel has been early, early, early – a common phrase from morel hunters reporting to the map. That being said, the morel season is upon us!

Note: the sighting reports are updated periodically throughout the day during the prime morel season. Markers are dropped on the map by Zip and or Town name, not actual GPS coordinates.
There are plenty of features on the interactive map – double click on images to open full size, zoom, filter by month, full screen and more. Below the map you can find a table listing of the 40 most recent sightings along with images and notes if they were sent – there is a “more pages” button at the bottom of this table. If you have issues not seeing the latest sightings markers, try un-checking a month in the bottom left corner of the map and then rechecking the box next to the month. It should refresh correctly.

 | Fort Snelling Morels - Heavy rain a week ago, 2 days of sunshine, and today overcast, but overall days have consistently been in the 60s for the past few weeks. Found 7 morels, only 1 big one though. Found by river by dead cottonwood tree.

| Miami County, Ohio - Ohio Morels April 27, 2024 - West facing hillside at low lying land with creek nearby. Surrounded by may apples. Found a honey hole of over 20 yellows in one spot.

| Morels in Dillon State Park - We had a few cooler nights and rain over the past few weeks, followed hy some very warm days (today it was 78 degrees). Found at the edge of the forest right along a hiking trail.

| YEA BABY!!! First black. First half free ever!! M.Punctipes! FIRST BLACK EVER! - The spot is its own microclimate. They have been finding yellows from Connecticut and Rhode Island all the way up to Vermont and New Hampshire. But this little spot just south of the Massachusetts border I found a black! There's running water nearby surrounded by a steep wall of cliff. I've only found yellows before so definitely going back.

| White morel sighting - The large morel on the right was found on well drained soil in a level, sunny area. Soil was heavily graveled beside a rail trail. This morel appeared to be associated with a living balsam fir tree.
